UK Programmes
In the UK CCC works with local children’s charities and funds programmes to improve learning outcomes. The focus is in areas where there is high deprivation and the aim is to raise aspirations, improve literacy, and provide educational opportunities for disadvantaged children.
CCC Literacy Programme with HEYCU
CCC has partnered with Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University to provide funding to purchase 30 book vending machines stocked with books for primary school children. The machines were provided to primary schools in areas of economic disadvantage in Hull and East Yorkshire. One in five children in these areas don’t own a book and CCC wanted to ensure that children had access to free high quality books to encourage a love of reading and improve children’s literacy for generations to come. Yorkshire and the Humber have the lowest literacy rates in the country, and these schools are already seeing a significant improvement in literacy rates through this initiative.
CCC’s Peterborough IntoUniversity Centre
CCC supports the IntoUniversity Centre in Peterborough. IntoUniversity provides local learning centres around the UK where children are inspired to achieve. Each local centre offers an educational programme that supports young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods to gain higher education, employment and work-based training. Anglia Ruskin University opened a new campus in Peterborough in September 2022, and works closely with the Peterborough IntoUniversity Centre to give disadvantaged children the opportunity to go to university.
